BIOGRAPHY

Laura Gustovska was born on December 8, 1986 in Aizpute. She began her musical education as a kokle player, and later graduated the Emilis Melngailis Liepāja College of Music in the music history and theory class (2006). At the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, under the direction of Selga Mence, she gained her Master’s degree, and completed her studies with Arnolds Šturms Award (2012). As of 2010, she teaches at the Liepāja College of Music. She has supplemented her knowledge at master classes with composers Wolfgang Rihm, Reinhard Febel, Toivo Tuleva, Fabio Nieder, Saad Haddad, and others.

Her music has been performed at several festivals (the new music festival Brucken in Germany, the electronic musical festival Skaņu mežs, the Latvia New Music Days). She has won awards at the Song competition Kas mēs esam, bijām, būsim (2008, 2010), the new music festival Arēna Young Composers Competition (2011) and the Pēteris Vasks Fund Piano Miniatures Competition for students of the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music.
