Biography Works
Born in Daugavpils, Latvia.
Studied at the Daugavpils College of Music (choir conducting and church organ-playing department).
From 1996 studied at the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music (JVLMA) department of musicology and graduated with bachelor’s degree in 2000, obtaining master’s degree (Mg. art.) in 2002.
From 2003 was a doctoral student and in 2009 successfully defended doctoral thesis Latvian Sacred Genres and was awarded the Doctor of Art (Dr.art.) degree in musicology.
Pedagogical activities: from 1999 till 2005– teacher of music theoretical subjects in Ulbroka’s School of Music and Art; 2001-2010 – teacher of music theory and music literature in Riga’s Dome Cathedral Choir School (2005-2007 – as Deputy Director).
Since 2008 to present day – lecturer at JVLMA Department of Musicology, and also organist (since 2003) in St. James’s/Jacob’s Rome Catholic Cathedral.
Scientific interests are focused on sacred music genres and composers, denominational sacred music’ differences, analysis of processes in development of contemporary sacred music.
