Mieze, Anita (1956)
Biography Works
Anita Mieze was born on September
29, 1980 in Jelgava. In 2008, she received her Master’s Degree in
music in the composition class of Selga Mence at the Latvian
Academy of Music. As part of
the Socrates/Erasmus programme, she
studied at the Basel Academy of Music with composer Roland
Moser.
In 2002–2004, she participated in the Latvian university
student exchange programme and studied painting with Jānis Zemītis
in the Latvian Academy of Art. She has participated in many
painting and textile art exhibitions. Along with her studies, she
began to work as a teacher of music theory and composition in the
Jāzeps Mediņš College of Music and the Jelgava College of
Music.
She has participated in many master classes: the Latvian
young musicians’ summer camp in Ogre (2000, 2002); at TENSO
composition seminars with Jonathan Harvey, in Cassis, France in
2006; the international Acanthes summer contemporary music academy
in Metz, France, with composer Marco Stroppa, Michael Jarrell and
Yan Maresz (2007); master class with composer and conductor Beat
Furrer in Basel, Switzerland (2007/2008); the international
Acanthes summer contemporary music academy, where the Orchestre
National de Lorraine, led by Diego Masson,
premiered Izgaismošana (Enlightenment),
her work for symphony orchestra (2008) at the closing
concert.
She has been successful in many competitions: 2nd place (1st
place not awarded) at the international composition competition in
Basel, Switzerland, organized by CULTURESCAPES
2006, for her work dans l’attente… plus de
claret (2006); 1st place in the Aloja Town Council
and Latvian Composers’ Union New Choir Song composition competition
(for her arrangement of the Latvian folk songTumsināja
vakarāja [The Evening Darkened]), (2006); 2nd place (1st
place not awarded) and the Latvian Radio
3 Klasika award at the First Young
Composers’ choir composition competition organised by Latvian Radio
(for her choir song Tempus, 2007); 2nd
place at the
fourth Pre-Art composition
competition, which was organised in cooperation with the Bosville
Ensemble (Zürich, Switzerland, for her
work Gleichzeitigkeit,
2008).
Her works have been performed in Latvia, Lithuania,
Switzerland, the United States, Poland, France, and
elsewhere.
