Biography Works
Platon Buravicky was born on May 10, 1989 in Riga. He graduated the Riga 5th School of Music (1998–2002), specialising in piano as well as studying composition with Vilnis Šmīdbergs; the Emīls Dārziņš College of Music Keyboard Department (2002–2007), where he also studied composition with Pēteris Vasks; and the Jāzeps Vītols Latvian Academy of Music, studying composition under Selga Mence (Bachelor’s: 2013; Master’s: 2015). Since 2007, he has also continued supplementing his knowledge with many teachers, including in algorithmic composition courses with Achim Christian Bornhoeft, electro-acoustic composition courses with Rolands Kronlaks, composition masterclasses with Dieter Mack, Alexander Tchaikovsky, Christian Wolff, Richard Cameron-Wolfe and Ed Benett, electro-acoustic music master classes with Lamberto Coccioli and James Bullock, and ambisonic (spatial) sound masterclasses with Mantautas Krukauskas.
Buravicky has received the Nic Gotham Music Award for excellent creative work in the 2014-2015 academic year, as well as the Diena newspaper’s 2017 Cultural Award for creative activity. His works have received awards at the New Composition Competition (1st place – 1999, 2007) and at the Pēteris Vasks Composition Competition (2nd place – 2012, 3rd place – 2014). His music has been performed at festivals and forums in Latvia—Skaņu mežs, Dominante, Survival Kit 5, Art and Communication, Arēna, Latvijas Jaunās mūzikas dienas, Liepājas vasara, Positivus, Sansusī, Skaņas dienas, Rīgas Doms, Space Textures and others—and abroad: Wilderness (Oxfordshire, UK), Baltic Art Form 2015 (London), Sound Around Kaliningrad 2015 (Kaliningrad, Russia), Groljud (Pännäinen, Finland), Percussion Ukmergė (Ukmerge, Lithuania) and elsewhere. He has worked as a teacher of music theory at the Jugla School of Music (2011–2013), a music teacher at the Riga Classical Secondary School (2011–2014), and a teacher of composition and music programming at the Jelgava College of Music (2013-2015). He gave lectures in electroacoustic music at the Groljud masterclasses in Pännäinen, Finland. Since 2018, he has worked as a Guest Lecturer at the University of Liepāja, RISEBA and JVLMA.
